Our Patients' Perspective
Marshall Weingarten
“I Chose Associated Audiologists for Their Expertise in Hearing
Care.”
Marshall Weingarten tolerated a significant
hearing loss for more than 30 years before seeking help from Associated
Audiologists, Inc. “I
lost 100 percent of the hearing in my left ear when an artillery shell
exploded near me during my military service in Viet Nam,” Weingarten
explains. “And as I accumulated birthdays, the hearing in my
right ear gradually deteriorated.”
But Weingarten managed to compensate for
his hearing loss by learning to read lips, and positioning himself
in a room so he could catch
parts of conversations. “I got used to functioning this way,
and didn’t realize how inconvenient it was for me and everyone
else in my life.”
Eventually, Weingarten’s family pointed out how severe his
hearing loss was. “I had the television turned up so loud no
one else could stay in the room with me. I finally realized my hearing
loss was affecting my life and those around me,” Weingarten
says.
So the 60-year-old Overland Park man did some research and determined
that the key element in improving his hearing was to find a professional
with extensive training in diagnosing and treating hearing loss.
“I chose Associated Audiologists for their expertise in hearing
care,” Weingarten says. “I didn’t want to buy a
hearing aid from a store in the mall. This is a medical problem.
I looked for the same type of qualifications in an audiologist that
I would look for in a doctor or dentist.”
And Weingarten hasn’t been disappointed. Extensive testing
and hearing aid fittings helped him match his hearing loss with the
right device. “Associated Audiologists gave me back my life,” he
says. “I didn’t realize how much I was missing. Now I
hear virtually everything and can participate in any social situation.”
