"My Hearing Aid is the First Thing I Reach For."

Peggy Farrell Peggy Farrell knows what it’s like to experience a hearing loss in the prime of life. “When I was about 45, I noticed that I was having problems hearing,” Peggy says. “I found myself asking people to repeat themselves and I would inappropriately respond to questions because I couldn’t hear what I was being asked,” Peggy admits.

So Peggy went to see a local hearing aid provider who fit her with two in-the-canal hearing aids. “I spent quite a lot of money, but only wore the hearing aids for a short time before I decided they weren’t for me, and I put them in a drawer.”

In the meantime, Peggy’s hearing loss continued to worsen. “I couldn’t hear people, so I thought I needed to compensate by talking louder,” Peggy explains. “It was embarrassing, but it motivated me to try hearing aids again.”

Six years after her first experience with hearing aids, Peggy decided to see Dr. Jim Wise at Associated Audiologists. “Dr. Wise carefully assessed my hearing needs and did a good job of helping me select the proper hearing aid for the maximum benefit,” says Peggy.

Because Peggy has had previous experience with hearing aids, she is able to compare the care she received from Dr. Wise with the other provider, and says there is a world of difference between the two.

“The real benefit to me has been the follow-up care Dr. Wise has provided,” Peggy says. “He has been able to adjust my hearing aid right in his office and offer me excellent service.”

Now Peggy says she would be lost without her behind-the-ear hearing aid. “It’s the first thing I reach for the minute I wake up.” In fact, Peggy credits her hearing aid with helping her do her job with more accuracy, ease, and less stress, but more importantly, she says it helps her overall quality of life. Even her family and friends have noticed a definite improvement in her hearing.

“It’s sad to think of all the people out there who are missing out like I was,” says Peggy. “Now I realize just how much hearing well impacts your everyday life and self-esteem.”
